“I’ve been blessed to have experienced so many wonderful things in my life and I’ve come to realise that there are some things I know for sure.”
I read this line in a book carrying the aforementioned title by Oprah Winfrey which is a brief window full of insights into her remarkable life and the wisdom she has to share.
I was reminded as I read it of the famous quote by Hunter S. Thompson who said βLife should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!β I’m not sure that Oprah or I would echo those exact sentiments but I am confident that a life well lived must involve some toil and strife along the way and that we thoroughly exhaust our limitless possibilities throughout.
There are days when I am worn out by life and all its attendant challenges but I am reminded to be grateful for all that life has given me too.
I also know that the only way to get through life is to embrace change and use it as an opportunity to grow. I have learnt to be open to possibility and to trust that whatever happens, I will be ok.
Life is full of surprises and I have come to appreciate that it’s the little moments of joy that make the biggest difference.
We all have something special about us and I believe it’s important to use our unique gifts to make the world a better place. This can equally apply to the work we do and the difference it can make to others. I’ve lost count of the number of people I’ve sourced, recruited and placed in the past 23 years but I’d like to think that I helped in some small way to shape their careers and make their lives more interesting.
What I know for sure is that life is precious and every day should be lived with intention, gratitude and joy.
What are you most grateful for? What do you know for sure?
